Project Background:

Social a forestation and tree plantation program play significant roles in creation of pollution free environment, biodiversity conservation and ecological balance. Keeping this in view, DDJ implemented the roadside tree plantation project from July 2002. Roadside tree plantation was also a component of the GMSP/IADP Project of DDJ.

Duration: July 2002 to June 2005

Area Coverage: Zianagar, Nazirpur, Mathbaria and Nesarabad upazilas of Pirojpur district.

Source of Funding: Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) of GoB, Ministry of Agriculture of GoB and Islamic Development Bank (IDB).

Project Goal: To contribute in creation of pollution free environment, bio-diversity conservation and ecological balance.

Objective of the Project:

The objective of the project was to enhance the standard of living of the landless, marginal farmers and small farmers and having pollution free environment through tree plantation in the project area.

Project Participants: Poor and marginal people.

Major Interventions:

a)     Formation of Roads Maintenance Committee;

b)     Providing training to the Roads Maintenance Committee members;

c)  Procurement of tree plants and conduct plantation;

d)  Maintenance of tree plants by watering/irrigation, using of fertilizer, supporting/fixing poles, fencing and  protection of tree plants;

Regular supervision and monitoring.
