Vulnerable Group Development Program (VGD), Circle 2019-2020

Background of the Program:

Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) is one of the largest safety net programs of Bangladesh Government which is being implemented by different NGOs of Bangladesh. DDJ started implementing the program with the funding support of Department of Women Affairs of GoB from 1 May 2010 in Jhalokathi Sadar & Kathalia upazilas of Jhalokathi district. Then DDJ implemented the program in Mehendigonj upazila of Barishal district. At present DDJ is implementing the program in Hizla upazila of Barishal district with 2000 beneficiaries.

Duration: 1 July 2019 to 31 December 2020.

Working Area: Hizla upazila of Barishal district.

Source of Funding: Department of Women Affairs of GoB.

Goal of the Program:

The goal of the program is to improve the socioeconomic status of vulnerable women and make best effort in materializing it.

Objective of the Program:

The main objective of the program is to build the income-earning capacities of vulnerable women and to socially empower them through training on awareness raising, provision of training on variety of income generating activities (IGA), provision of credit and other support services during and beyond the food assistance period.

Beneficiaries of the Program: Vulnerable women i.e. poor and ultra-poor women.

Major Interventions:

Formation of group of vulnerable women, provide training to vulnerable women on life skills, income generating activities (IGA), mother and child health, women empowerment, HIV/AIDS, goat, cow and poultry rearing, vegetable gardening etc., provide micro credit support to the vulnerable women, savings collection, food distribution among the vulnerable women through Union Council etc.
