Project Background:

The organization started “Advocacy Education for Civic Participation (AECP)’’ project in 1996 with the financial support from USAID through International Voluntary Services (IVS) with the  aim to promote people’s participation in local democratic institutions and to influence the decision making process for their own benefit. The project helped the community people to become aware of the role, responsibilities and functions of the UP and identification and utilization of local resources.

Duration: Year 1996 to 1999.

Area Coverage: Zianagar upazila of Pirojpur district.

Project Goal: To promote people’s participation in local democratic institutions and to influence the decision making process for their own benefit.

Project Objective: The objective of the project was to play the advocacy role for effectively mobilizing the locally elected bodies (LEBs) for the benefit of the target people and development partners.

Project Participants: Chairman, Members of the Union Council, local leaders, civil society members and community people.

Major Intervention:

The major activities of the project were: arranging trainings, workshops and issue based workshops with the association members, local leaders, Locally Elected Bodies (LEB) and civil society members, review and planning meetings with project staff and monthly staff meeting, joint meeting with the civil society, political activist, association members and LEBs, mass rally, cultural programs, video show for mass awareness raising and advocacy on the role, responsibilities and functions of the UP (Union Parisad) members, identification, mobilization, development and utilization of local resources, program planning and lobbying.
