Project Title: Maternal, Child Health and Family Planning Project
Project Background:
Dak Diye Jai started implementing the Maternal Child Health and Family Planning project in 1989 with the funding and technical support of Bangladesh Population and Health Consortium (BPHC) through Center for Development Services (CDS). The organization started working with BPHC directly from 1992 which was continued up to December 2004. When the donor agency discontinued their financial support after December 2004, DDJ continued this project in small scale with its own funds. The organization again got financial support from Bangladesh NGO Foundation from July 2007 for the Maternal Child Health and Family Planning Project.
Duration: July 2007 to continuing.
Area coverage: Zianagar Upazila of Pirojpur district.

The Project Goal: The goal of the project is to improve the maternal and child health status of the poor and disadvantaged people of the target areas by providing them healthcare services.
The specific objectives of the project:
• To reduce the maternal death rate;
• To reduce the death rate of the children under five years;
• To reduce the population growth rate;
• To increase the nutritional status of the common people;
Project participants: Mainly rural women and children.
Major intervention:
• Mother and child care;
• Pregnant mothers care and check-up;
• Distribution of family planning contraceptives (oral pills, condoms, etc);
• Provide nutritional awareness to the mothers;
• Aware the mothers and adolescent boys and girls about HIV/AIDS;
• Family visits for raising awareness of the family members on healthcare and for distribution of family planning contraceptives (oral pills, condoms, etc);
• Referring the women to the govt. clinics/hospitals for adopting long-term and permanent family planning methods;
• Referring the mother and children to the EPI centers;
• Arranging regular health care related meetings and sessions for the adolescent boys and girls.
