BD Rural WASH for HCD Project

Access to safely managed water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities is a prerequisite to sustainable development. Despite significant economic progress in Bangladesh, inadequate WASH services in rural areas remain a major concern. The SDG-6 aims to address challenges related to drinking water, sanitation, hygiene, and water-related ecosystems. To achieve the Government of Bangladesh’s SDG-6 goals, PKSF is implementing the BD Rural WASH for HCD project through its partner organizations, with financial support from the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Dak Diye Jai (DDJ) has been implementing the project across seven branch offices located in Indurkani Upazila of Pirojpur District and Morrelganj Upazila of Bagerhat District since November 2023.

Main objectives of the project:

  • Improve access to safely managed water supply and sanitation services in selected rural areas of Bangladesh.
  • Strengthen institutional capacity in the water and sanitation sector.

Activities under the project:

Under the BD Rural WASH for HCD initiative, Behavior Change Communication (BCC) sessions are being conducted at the community level with beneficiaries. These sessions focus on five key topics to promote healthy hygiene practices and necessary behavioral changes:

  • Water supply;
  • Sanitation;
  • Proper timing and techniques of handwashing;
  • Child care;
  • Menstrual hygiene management for women.
